The Madras High Court on Tuesday sentenced two teachers of a government girls’ higher secondary school in Chengalpattu to five and three years of rigorous imprisonment for having sexually harassed many Class XI and XII students in 2012. It expressed regret about its inability in awarding much severe punishment owing to the trial court’s failure to frame charges under stringent provisions of law. After reversing the March 2018 acquittal order of a Mahila Court in Chengelpet, Justice P. Velmurugan said, “unfortunately” the trial court had framed charges under limited provisions of law and he could not convict them beyond those charges without affording them an opportunity of defence. Further, it would not be proper to order retrial in the case at this stage considering the future of the victims

Sun TV Network has challenged Trai’s Regulations in Madras High Court Trai has made a provision of 200 channels in the maximum NCF of Rs 160 DPO’s have to charge 40 % amount of the declared NCF amount for multi TV connections Maharashtra Cable Operations Foundation (MCOF) along with Digital Cable Operators Association of Mumbai (DCOAM) have appealed to Bombay high court challenging the network capacity fee (NCF) introduced by Trai in NTO 2.0. The MCOF have challenged the decision of NCF cap of Rs 160 per month and discounts on second and additional TV connections decided by Trai. To settle the matter, the bench of Justice AA Syed and Justice Anuja Prabhudessai have decided the hearing on February 26, 2020. Justice C.V. Karthikeyan was told by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas that the number of LPG connections in the State had increased from 174.30 lakh out of 203.20 lakh households as of July 1, 2017, to 209.51 lakh out of 210.71 lakh households as of December 1, 2019. The court was informed that as per the dashboard of the Union Ministry of Power, electricity coverage in Tamil Nadu had increased from 99.98% as of October 10, 2017, to 100% as of March 31, 2019. After recording these submissions, the judge dismissed a writ petition filed by the Tamil Nadu Kerosene Dealers’ Association.
