The Habeas Corpus Petition filed by Mr. Sankar came up for hearing before the Hon’ble Division Bench comprising of Hon’ble Dr. Justice Anita Sumanth and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sunder Mohan.
Dr. B. Ramaswamy, along with Learned Senior Counsel Mr. Raghavachari, appeared and advanced submissions on behalf of the proposed intervenors, representing the victims affected by the alleged fraudulent activities of the petitioner.
During the course of hearing, it was brought to the notice of the Hon’ble Bench that more than 12,000 individuals from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had allegedly been cheated by the petitioner, involving an amount of approximately ₹150–200 crores. It was submitted that the petitioner, who is alleged to have caused financial loss to a large number of persons, had approached the Hon’ble Court by way of a Habeas Corpus Petition.
Considering the submissions made on behalf of the victims, the Hon’ble Division Bench was pleased to permit the intervention petition and took note of the grievances raised by the affected persons.
In view of the seriousness of the allegations and the large number of persons affected, the Hon’ble Court directed the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior police officials, including officers of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Inspector, to take appropriate steps for securing the presence of Mr. Sankar and to proceed in accordance with law.
