Madras high court on Friday stayed further proceedings in the criminal case registered against TVK general secretary N Anand by police for unlawful assembly and obstructing them from discharging their duty in Trichy district.
Justice Sunder Mohan passed the interim order while hearing the petition filed by Anand seeking to quash the FIR registered against him and others by the Trichy airport police. In his petition, Anand said TVK president Vijay would be commencing his campaign for the forthcoming assembly elections from Trichy. Arrangements were being made for it in a full-fledged manner, and police permission was requested. He said he came to Trichy to respond to the queries raised by the police in this regard. This was known to only a few party members, and no programme was planned.
He stated that he came to Trichy by flight on Sept 6, worshipped at a Vinayagar temple near the airport, and went to meet the police officials. However, an FIR was registered against him and six others with the sole intention of harassing and preventing him from carrying out his political responsibilities.”
