CHENNAI: Indian ace cricketer Harbhajan Singh has lodged a complaint with the Chennai city police against a businessman for cheating him of Rs 4 crore.
The issue came to light after the businessman approached the Madras high court seeking anticipatory bail in the case.
In his complaint, Harbhajan mentioned that he had got introduced to businessman G Mahesh, who lives on the Juhu Beach Road at Uthandi in Chennai, through a common friend. Harbhajan paid the amount as a loan in 2015.

Whenever Singh tried to reach him, Mahesh delayed and avoided repaying the money.
On August 18, a cheque for Rs 25 lakh issued by Mahesh bounced due to insufficient funds.
Harbhajan, who is a member the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team and was in Chennai recently, approached the city police commissioner and lodged a formal complaint against Mahesh and a few others.
The petition has been forwarded to Neelankarai assistant commissioner of police Visveshvaraiah for a detailed inquiry. The ACP summoned Mahesh to appear before him for an inquiry.
Mahesh filed an anticipatory bail through his counsels K Surendar and Chenthoori Pugazendhi, which is pending before the Madras high court now.
In his affidavit, Mahesh stated that he had received the loan from Harbhajan Singh after issuing an immovable property at Thalambur as security. Later, a general power of attorney deed was also executed in Harbhajan Singh’s favour in 2015. It was registered at the Thiruporur sub-registrar office, document number 3635/2015.
Mahesh stated that he had paid all the pending dues to Harbhajan.
