Oath of the Constitution day to the advocates was administered by Thiru. ARL Sundaresan, ASG and he delivered the presiding address in brief. He specifically addressed the young lawyers stating that he been treats himself as young in the sense this profession calls for daily learning and it is absolutely essential that we learn, be prepared, never represent without being though, learn to place your hands on the right law,
He said the most important aspect is integrity, and uprightness. Be fair and sincere to the client, advice them of the true position of their case and don’t give false hope. Institution is more important, hard work is the only thing that pays and takes one to great heights.
Thiru. Palanikumar introduced the organisation’s work over the last year and 5 important events, Young Advocates Day, 12.01.2024 and the Supreme Mission of being able to take 5 male and 5 female lawyers between 3-10 years of enrolment at the BAR for training to the Honorable Supreme Court and giving them the invaluable experience of also being able to interact with the legislative arm of the parliament, the law commission, and the NHRC; Women Advocates day 08.03.2024 and discuss the issues faced by women lawyers and an effort to improve their work conditions and possibly creating a more viable space for them across the system; Constitution Day, 26.11.2024; Stapna Divas/Foundation day celebrating the organisations founding with literacy and legal aid programs; and
Most importantly Viyasa Purnima/Guru Purnima as Senior Advocates day and honouring those that have been responsible for the development and progress of young lawyers, March of law, and the profession in all.
Honorable Thiru. Justice R. Suresh Kumar delivered the constitutional address. The Honorable Judge discussed how most societies only celebrate, individual, group or institutional achievements and timelines or such celebrations are faith based but India has the unique aspect of celebrating a document.
He went on to address on the importance of the process arriving at the final version of the document with more than 2500 amendments/reviews, debates leading to such amendments, the three reviews, and he followed up with the importance from its structure to the fundamental rights, the governance structure, the rights and duties of the citizen.
He specifically addressed in the importance of district courts.
He circled back to the extent of thought of the framers of the constitution to think about the minute and niche issues such as water disputes, division of power, etc. How the constitution also thought about resolving issues within it, within governments, etc. He says “this is the only constitution that has the *niceties* that protect the union, the states and the relationship between them.
The judge wrapped the address by celebrating the Madras High court has its unique position and then with the strength of the constitution we have to march great strides, take strength in the constitution and give its effect to the last man.
Thiru. Rajesh Vivekanadan, DSG giving the felicitation address was glad to see the growth of the organisation over the years and he reiterated the words of the Honorable Judge calling for monthly meetings for the lawyers to improve conditions of lawyers and the society, further a large celebration with people from all strata of the society.
