Status reports have been filed by the Joint Commissioner, HR & CE Department, Mayiladuthurai as well as the District Collector, Thanjavur. While the Joint Commissioner, HR & CE Department seeks two months time to complete the 78 proceedings that have been taken against the encroachers on the bund of the tank called Pottramarai Kulam, which is under the control of the HR & CE Department, the District Collector has filed a status report stating that almost all the encroachments have been removed.
2. Mr.Elephant G.Rajendran, the contempt petitioner would stoutly dispute the correctness of the status reports and submit that encroachments have not been removed.
3. In view of the allegations and the counter allegations, we deem it fit to appoint Mr.S.Solaimalai, District Judge (Retd.) to inspect the 44 tanks and 12 channels in Kumbakonam with the assistance of Elephant G.Rajendran,

KKN the petitioner as well as the revenue Officials and file a report on the status. Such report shall be filed by 04.12.2024.
4. The Revenue Administration and the Municipal Commissioner, Kumbakonam Corporation is directed to provide all assistance in the form of records or work force while taking measurements. If the Commissioner seeks police protection, the District Collector will ensure that police protection is given to him.
