Hon’ble Judges,

Sub: Representation from members of the
Bar- Madras High court and Madurai Bench-
recommendation of the collegiums of the
Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the
appointment of Mrs.L.Victoria Gowry as
judge of the Madras High Court – Reg:

1. We, the members of the various Bar Associations attached with the Madras High Court at Madras and Bench at Madurai most humbly submit our representation before the Hon’ble Collegium of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
2. As per the resolution of the Hon’ble Collegium of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, members from the Bar and service have been recommended to be appointed as Judges of the Madras High Court. Among them Mrs.L.Victoria Gowry, presently Deputy Solicitor General of India was also recommended to be appointed as Judge of the High Court.
3. Now, it is pertinent to point out here that a women advocate from the Madurai Bar Association has been considered after eighteen years from the constitution of the Madurai Bench. She has contributed for the development of law and worked hard as Deputy Solicitor General of India. It is also to be pointed out that many advocates directly worked as members/office bearers of various Political parties have been appointed across India and many Judges of Madras High Court have been appointed, though they have direct political back ground like District Secretaries and other office bearers of leading political parties in Tamil Nadu. Now some of the lawyers having their own political agenda have represented before the Collegium as if Mrs. L.Victoria Gowri may not be suitable for the post, simply because she was in political affiliation.
4. It is to be considered based on the inputs from the state and central government as well from the candidates, the Hon’ble Collegium was pleased to recommend her name. Now, with out any valid reasons, except political vendetta and political animosity, a group of Advocates belonging to some political factions are directly trying to interfere with the administration of justice and appointment of Judges. This sort of interference by a group of Advocates is to be curtailed and should be Nip the brier in the bud. There is no reasonableness and fairness on the part of group of lawyers placing objections against one candidate due to political animosity and there by favoring one political party is quite obvious.
5. It is pertinent to point out that the said group of lawyers used to throw some or other allegations against the candidate ,whom they are opposed to politically and personally in all the recommendations every time. It has become a habit for them.
6. It is pertinent to point out that the past history of Madras High Court has witnessed many Advocates having political affiliation were appointed as judge of the High Court and discharged their duty well and unbiased. It is equally inferred that she will also discharge her duty as a Judge. But some of the Lawyers with out any basis has thrown allegations about her past political affiliation with ulterior motive and malafide intention.
7. Hence we humbly request to reject the claim of a group of lawyers to withdraw the recommendations of the collegium relating to the appointment of Mrs.L.Victoria Gowri.

Thanking you

Yours faithfully,
