The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea seeking directions to the authorities to explore possibilities of alternate Unani and Homeopathic medicines to treat pandemic COVID-19.

A bench headed by Justices N V Ramana was told by the counsel for the petitioner, a doctor of homeopathy, that since there was no medicines or treatment available for novel Coronavires, alternate Unani and Homeopathic medicines may be explored.

However, the bench also comprising Justices Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and B R Gavai, said :

“Corona is a new virus. We can’t experiment around. Let experts come up with a vaccine. Wait,”

The bench then dismissed the PIL filed by Dr C R Sivram on the issue which was heard through video conference.

A Public Interest Litigation is pending in the High Court of Kerala seeking permission to practice homeopathy in relation to COVID-19 as per the advisory issued by the Union Ministry of AYUSH

On April 11, a bench comprising Justices A K Jayasankaran Nambiar and Shaji P Chaly had sought clarification from the government on any prohibition against Homeopathic doctors from practising their system of medicine in relation to COVID-19.

The petitioner before Kerala HC, M S Vineeth, stated that AYUSH Ministry has advised homeopathy as a preventive cure for COVID-19. Despite that, home doctors are facing prohibition in the State, submitted the petitioner.
