The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that nine additional judges of the Madras High Court be made permanent judges of the High Court. Following a meeting held on February 12, the following judges have been recommended to be made permanent judges, i.e. PT Asha M Nirmal Kumar Subramonium Prasad N Anand Venkatesh GK Ilanthiraiyan Krishnan Ramasamy C Saravanan B Pugalendhi Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy Seven of these judges, Justices PT Asha, M Nirmal Kumar, Subramonium Prasad, N Anand Venkatesh, GK Ilanthiraiyan, Krishnan Ramaswamy and C Saravanan were appointed as additional judges in June 2018. Justice Pugalendhi was appointed as an additional judge for a two year term in November 2018. Justice Ramamoorthy, a former partner at Dua Associates, was so appointed in February 2019. S.SUNDAR,J AND D.BHARATHA CHAKRAVARTHY,J (Order of the Court was made by S.S.SUNDAR.,J) Heard Mr.Veerakathiravan, learned Additional Advocate General assisted by Mr.A.Kannan, learned Additional Government Pleader appearing for the Appellant and Mr.K.Ragatheeshkumar, learned counsel appearing for the first respondent and perused the materials available on record. 2. Now, it is brought to the notice of this Court by both parties that the order passed in the Writ Petition has been complied with. 3. It is further stated that in the Contempt Petition, the learned Single Judge himself has recorded compliance of the order passed in the Writ Petition by the official respondents. However, the learned Single Judge found that though the order passed in the Writ Petition was complied with by the official respondents, there was a delay on their part and that there was no reason adduced for the delay. Therefore, the learned Single Judge found the appellant/first contemnor guilty and imposed a sentence on him to undergo simple imprisonment for two (02) weeks and the appellant/ first contemnor to pay fine of Rs.1,000/- (Rupees one thousand only), in default, to undergo simple imprisonment for three days. 4. Having regard to the facts and circumstances of this case, this Court is inclined to suspend the order imposing sentence and fine on the appellant/ first contemnor till the disposal of this Contempt Appeal. 5. Accordingly, paragraph No.27 of the order dated 02.08.2023 passed in Cont.P.(MD)No.374 of 2020 imposing sentence and fine on the appellant is suspended till the disposal of this Contempt Appeal.
