Failure to do so is due to the State Election

Today a writ petition filed by 8 ward members of Sivagangai district panchayat praying to direct the state election commission to conduct election for the post of district panchayat chairman came up for hearing before Hon’ble Mr Justice Anand Venkatesh.

Mr. P Wilson Senior Advocate appeared for the petitioners. He had already submitted that as per the rules the election to the post of district chairman should’ve been held immediately after declaration of results of ward members. Failure to do so is due to the State Election Commission not fixing a date for elections due to extraneous reasons.

On the previous date, the Hon’ble Court had directed the election commission counsel to get a date for conducting elections.

Today Mr. Nedunchezian Counsel for the Election Commission undertook to notify elections within a period of two weeks from today.

Recording the same, the Hon’ble Court disposed off the Writ Petition with a direction to the State election commission to notify election within 2 weeks
