He could not bear the shock. He was a humane judge He did not stand on technicalities . If he decided to render justice where it was needed he would deliver judgment citing several precedents in support of his decision He believed that law should not be broken but it could be bent to suit the just decision It will be very difficult to see a more helpful human being as he had helped hundreds of high court staff for getting admissions to their children in educational institutions . When he left for Kerala a touching scene was witnessed at Chennai central station . About 200 staff members of our high court came to bid farewell and wept uncontrollably

He studied in Chennai (Madras). Before his elevation to the Supreme Court in 2002, he served as a judge on the Madras High Court and Kerala High Court. He was also appointed as Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court in 2000 and Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2001. He retired in 2007.[3]

He hails from the Nagarathar community and his native is Devakottai, Tamil Nadu. He served as chairman of the Law Commission of India during 2006–2009. He is representing Tamil Nadu in the Mullai Periyar Panel appointed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. The panel is headed by Justice A.S.Anand.

சிறந்த சிந்தனையாளர், இலக்கியவாதி, மனித நேயர்.

இரண்டு நாட்களுக்கு முன் தான் அவரது துணைவியார் மீனாட்சி ஆச்சி மறைந்தார். அந்த அதிர்ச்சியில் அய்யாவின் மரணம் ஆழ்ந்த வருத்தத்தை அளிக்கிறது.

டாக்டர் கலைஞரின் நினைவேந்தலில் அவர் கலந்து கொண்டு உரையாற்றியது இன்றும் நினைவில் பசுமையாக உள்ளது.

சென்னை உயர்நீதிமன்றத்தில் அவர் நீதிபதியாகப் பணிபுரிந்த போது அரசுக்கு எதிராகத் தீர்ப்பளித்ததால் கடுமையாக பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர், ஆனால் ஒரு நாளும் அதை வெளிக்காட்டாத நல்ல மனிதர்.

அவர் நீதிமன்றத்தில் வழக்குகளைக் கையாள்வது வித்தியாசமாக இருக்கும்.
பல முறை அவர் நீதிமன்றத்தில் ஜூனியர் வக்கீலாக வாதிட்டுள்ளேன்., அறிவுரையோடு செல்லமாக ஒரு குட்டு குட்டி விட்டு உத்தரவு வழங்குவார்.

இரவு வரை தூங்காமல் படித்து வருவது அவர் இறுதி வரை கடைப்பிடித்த பழக்கம்., நமக்கு இன்று பாடமாக.

இயற்கையின் கோணல் புத்தி இவ்வளவு கொடூரமாக இருக்கும் என்பது மிகுந்த வேதனையாக உள்ளது.

நீதிபதியின் குடும்பத்தினர், நண்பர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் ஆழ்ந்த இரங்கல்.
