Dmk mp.rs barathi complaint to dgp full detail

PRESS RELEASE

Date : 02.01.2021

To,

Director General of Police,

601, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai,

Chennai

We are bringing to your notice, a glaring instance of the increasing trend of police officials in the State acting at the instance of the ruling party and its Ministers by grossly abusing their powers and failing to uphold the rule of law.

Today, on 02.01.2021, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and President of the DMK, Thiru. M. K. Stalin conducted a Makkal Grama Sabha meeting at Devarayapuram, Tondamuthur, Coimbatore District. In the meeting, he spoke about various failures of the ADMK government and highlighted the corruption during its tenure, especially the activities of Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru. Edapaddi K. Palaniswami and Hon’ble Minister
Thiru. S. P. Velumani.

Being the Member of Legislative Assembly from the said constituency and a Minister in the Government, Thiru. Velumani sought to prevent the opposition party viz., DMK from campaigning and stop the interaction of DMK leaders and cadres with the public. In an overt effort to forestall his widely expected impending defeat in his constituency, using his present position as the Minister for Municipal Administration, he is engaging in widespread abuse of power by using the police and district administration in Coimbatore district to intimidate and silence the political opposition.

Thiru. Velumani conspired with unnamed officers of the Coimbatore Police and cadres of the Coimbatore District Wing of the ADMK party to incite violence in the above mentioned meeting held by the DMK and addressed by Thiru. Stalin. In this regard, he engaged Deputy President, Women’s wing, Coimbatore, ADMK, Tmt. Poongudi W/o Vishvasam, Senthamizh Nagar, Sugunapuram West, Kuniyamuthur to incite violence in the peaceful Makkal Grama Sabha meeting. Despite her efforts, any violence was averted and she was escorted out from the meeting by the police themselves.

The entire meeting was video graphed and the print and news media was also present, covering the event. After she was escorted out from the meeting, in pursuance of the conspiracy, Tmt. Poongudi falsely alleged that she was assaulted by DMK cadres because she disrupted the meeting, at the instance of Thiru. Velumani. To support the said version of Tmt. Poongudi,
Thiru. Velumani instigated Thiru. Velusamy, Union Secretary, Tondamuthur, ADMK and 20 unnamed cadres of ADMK to pressure the police to register a false information of commission of cognizable offence and falsely corroborate the veracity of the complaint given by Tmt. Poongudi. In spite of knowing the truth of the matter Inspector, Thondamuthur Police station falsely registered a FIR as though an assault was committed on Tmt. Poongodi by DMK cadres.

The existence of the above mentioned conspiracy is proved by the video of the phone conversation between Thiru. Velumani and Tmt. Poongodi which is being widely circulated on social media.

The above mentioned acts of Thiru. S.P.Velumani, Tmt. Poongodi, Thiru Velusamy And Inspector of Police, Thondamathur Police station and other unnamed persons constitute punishable offences under section 120B, 153, 167, 203, 211 and 505 (1)(c) IPC.

It is well-known that the Coimbatore police and district administration function as a tool of Thiru. Velumani and abuse the process of law at his instance and for his benefit. In this backdrop, at least during the time of elections, as Director General of Police, you should maintain the impartiality of the police force, punish erring officials and maintain discipline in the force.

I therefore request you to personally intervene in the matter and take action against the police officials who are foisting false cases against DMK cadres at the instance of Thiru. Velumani.

You are aware that democracy is the cornerstone of our society and it is also part of the basic structure of our Constitution. Being public servants who are accountable to the people, it is incumbent on the officers of the police department to faithfully uphold the rule of law and more importantly, be seen as doing so without regard to political or other affiliation.

Yours Sincerely,
