Chennai Sessions Court Dismissed Leena Manimekalai’s plea to transfer the court .

The Chennai Principal Sessions Court Judge, Alli, dismissed Poet Leena Manimekalai’s plea to transfer court as The Supreme Court directed filmmaker Susi Ganeshan’s ongoing defamation case to be completed within 4 months.

After Leena Manimekalai accused Susi Ganeshan on Twitter and Facebook in the #MeToo allegation, Ganeshan had filed a criminal defamation case in the Saidapet Magistrate Court in the year 2019. Susi Ganeshan claimed Manimekalai’s accusations were baseless, solely to tarnish his name and reputation in the industry, and for self popularity, that she must be punished under the criminal Defamation penal code .
This case is currently in the trial phase at the 9th MM Saidapet Magistrate Court in Chennai. During the trial, the Saidapet court had recommended to the passport authorities to impound Leena Manimekalai’s passport . Leena Manimekalai had approached the High Court and her passport was released subsequently. Susi Ganeshan approached The Supreme Court and the Apex Court had ordered the Saidapet Magistrate Court to complete the case within a period of 4 months.
Manimekalai had filed a case at the Principal Sessions Court, Requesting change of the 9th MM Saidapet Court .During this trial, Susi Ganeshan’s counsel, Alexis Sudhakar, argued that this case has been dragged on for more than 3 years by Leena Manimekalai, and again she used this tactics to delay further which is against the conditions laid by suprem court .
The Principal Sessions Court Judge, Alli, had given a judgment on March 4th 2022, stating that Leena Manimekalai’s accusations against the Saidapet Magistrate Court were completely baseless and this plea is to be dismissed.
The trial is now at its final stage and the Saidapet Magistrate Court has to complete it within the given time, by April.
