Justice Dalveer Singh of India got 183 votes out of 193 votes (one from each country represented) and defeated Justice Christopher Greenwood of Britain. He broke the 71-year monopoly on this post of Britain.
Justice Dalveer Bhandari got 183 out of 193 votes in the General Assembly and all 15 out of 15 members of the United Nations Security Council.
Justice Dalveer Bhandari will hold this post for a term of 9 years.
