Navtej Singh Johar vs Union of India WP No 76 of 2016 decided on 6/09/2018( decriminalizing Gay sex and repealing section 377) A five-judge bench at country’s highest court decriminalized homosexuality, striking down 160 years old law which deemed gay sex “against the law of nature”.The Supreme Court declared section 377 of IPC as unconstitutional. Insofar it criminalizes consensual sexual acts of adults of same sex in private.However the other part of section 377 relating to minor and bestiality remains in force .This historical judgment drews cheers from across the nation.
